to assure the best physical and mental outcome for the patient I attend to. In the 23 years of my career, I have witnessed a palette of emotions by which these patients approach their trials and tribulations. From this palette, I drew the passions that inspired the characters in Cry WaterColors. In the analysis of a crippling illness or accident, it is so often said that the condition “beats the alternative (referring to death).” As the attending physician, deeply involved in the battle to assure the best medical outcome, I have often asked “what if I was in their shoes?” In many situations, would death not be deferential? As this is a very personal decision, I challenged the protagonist in Cry WaterColors with making a decision between “the quality of life” and the debilitation resulting from the effort to sustain “life at all cost.” In the pursuit of medical care, at what point is the sanctity of life compromised? At the NYC Book Expo I intent to share the passion of Cry WaterColors with those who care to stop by my booth (#1846).
